Two men are in critical condition after their car was involved in a crash in Columbia County. A 58-year-old man from Lake City and another man were traveling on County Road 341. One of the men was driving a1991 four-door Mercury southbound when the vehicle drifted into the road’s west shoulder, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The driver then over-corrected and the vehicle went across the road crashing into a guardrail and finally coming to rest in the ditch. Neither man was wearing a seat belt and both were taken to Shands at the University of Florida.
Our prayers go out for the continued recovery of both of these men.
Many accidents are caused by actions as simple as turning on the radio or glancing sideways. Inattention can have deadly consequences. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that even using a cell phone can increase your chances of getting into a crash by 400 %.
Fatal Crash Cause
There is no word on why the vehicle may have wandered out of its lane but in accidents such as this, there are a wide variety of possibilities. Investigators will be looking at everything from equipment failure, to the medical condition of the driver, to conditions that might have distracted the driver including sleeping while behind the wheel.
